I have issues with various browsers, devices and various geographical areas. Not as wide of area, no, but still. Also with more than one internet provider.

As you know, internet providers of different names in a same (even wide) area share fibre pipes, routers and dns servers. They rent them from some bigger players.

I'll add your account to some detailed debug tracking in a few days, so please hold on - I'm sure we'll solve this somehow.

Correct, and being that Level3 is big around here I wouldn't doubt it goes through them. I'm just saying I can't be the only one going through Level3 that comes here.

I hope you get it figured out and fixed, wherever the problem lies. It's delicious flying around the forums at these speeds! :-D

I tried a tracert a couple of times to POTN and I always get a timeout at the comcast system in Marietta GA - but I have no speed problems with AMASS. seems fine to me.

Might this be a result of a firewall or virus protection program going too much security checks on your browsing? I use Trend Micro and have it set to watch for non-secure web sites but it doesn't seem to slow down my browsing.

Many routers either cap ping responses per sec or deny them.

Thats true

Both ping and tracert don't seem to be of any value any more to tack global connection issues.

Well, I just read through these 5 pages and a bunch of other posts from many members crying their little eyes out, fretting and wringing their hands over the forum changes and how bad it is. Perhaps those crying about some of the picky little details should sit down and hand assemble a better framework than has been written here and presented to you to enjoy and use for FREE!

I guess I see things differently.

I see a new forum that many people have spent a great deal of time and talent designing which I, for one, applaud and I thank you.

I like what I have seen so far and find it fast and easy to use. I got used to it in the first few minutes of being on it. I think a lot of the complainers like to do just that.....complain. Many of the comments are so incredibly inane I laughed out loud. And to those I guess if your life is that small then maybe you need to seek help.

I still enjoy coming here despite the cry babies....which, of course, there will always be.

I find it amusing (in a twisted way) about how folks THINK things have gone so much worse in POTN appearance via the AMASS changes, when the similarites are so great!

AMASS on the left, POTN on the right...

The comment about 'I don't like the white and blue look either' really applies equally to BOTH!
Text sizes are SMALLER in POTN than in AMASS.

You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! Keep POTN alive and well with member support https://photography-on-the.net/forum/donate.php

The new white background just killed my eyes ...
The new margin is too large ...
etc ...

I'm a bit sad to lose the old format.

It's really hard for me to use and just changes the vibe of the place.

I don't mind these threads, but it's really the main forum index which just looks really long and convoluted now, it looks like it has 100 different subforums, and heaps of subforums with nobody viewing at them. It seems like the level of disaggregation is too great, as the number of viewers and posters is being diluted. This is dangerous, because if people think nobody are viewing these subforums, they will stop posting too, and eventually this will create a self fulfilling prophecy leading to a ghost-town of a forum

Just my 2c- appreciate the hard work of course.

Thanks,

I have decided to do some things to version 1.1 which will help that.

1. The default index page will be "Short View" https://photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php?short . That is a good overview what of all forum we have to offer. In version 1.1. the short view will not have script font titles, but sans-serif bold. That makes it extremely clear and concise.

(I actually did that change just now, the short view forum link for will also be arial, later)

2. The "full view" will have command to collapse sections. The script font will be kept there as I like it (sorry haters!). I think I'll also drop "Photography Talk" forums to lower position, as it is less popular than the others. Graphically I'll do it with old POTN like styling which means better visual separation.

The problem with lots of forums is always how to present them. I think short view as default reduces the initial confusion a lot. There will be a transition time where places are sought and found.

Having used the forum more now, rather than just looking at it superficially, I can see a heapload of new functionality and improvements and clearly a lot of thinking and hard work has gone into it

I think some people just hate change, and eventually just get over it. (I'm one of these people)

Thanks for the hard work and responsiveness to concern guys!

Pekka one thing in relation to your previous post about short view, I think one really good thing about the previous forum was it showed (IIRC) e.g. Gear Talk "=10 million threads and 10 billion posts" and made everything look really popular and people would be like "wah so much traffic I wanna post up my stuff and get attentionz". Maybe I'm overthinking it, but that impression of high traffic is a self fulfilling prophecy in itself.

hehehe

Short View as the default is a good idea. Too bad I'm already using that as my default and of course now I have lost JennaSue so I'm either stuck with an office-style page or am forced to have Full View as my default which I don't want.

Thanks Pekka. I'm still using long view so I will see no change. This is great as I like JennaSue.:-)
