In the VBulletin version of POTN (along with most VBulletin forums), there is a noticeable icon in the title bar of threads in a forum area showing that I have posted in the thread. In the new POTN, there's a bit of text (such as [YOURS: 1]) embedded in the credit area under the thread title. The "[YOURS: 1]" does not visibly stand out enough for me to be able to see it clearly when looking over a page of thread titles.

I would GREATLY appreciate having this indicator moved to the right side of the thread title box, near where I see "go to first unread" and other such notes. As I typically visually scan the page of thread titles, this would make it MUCH easier to see the threads that I've already posted in.

This tweak, along with adding the ability to "mark forum as having been read", would give me all the ease I had in scanning threads in the VBulletin version of POTN.

If you have posted a reply to a thread, and then later want to go back to see the other responses, why wouldn't you follow it? Just curious? I have threads I have replied to and don't follow, and that is because I don't really have a need to go back to see what is all going on, it might have been a quick answer to someone, but if I want to vest more time in a thread after that, I follow it. The old one would automatically create a subscription for you, for now anyways, you have to consciously choose to do that subscription.

There are different levels of my interest in any particular thread. What I described above is how I do 90% or more of my high-level scanning of what I might want to look at in a given session on the forums. For a thread that I'm really interested in, I may wish to use the "follow" tool. Having both levels of being aware of my own posts would give me the multi-level option.

I have the option of looking for the "[YOURS: 1]" right now, but that is simply too buried in the other text around it for me to be able to see it easily.

How did you do this on the old system? When you replied, it automatically created a subscription that showed up under User CP (which is now New and Followed). Did you remove your subscription then manage those threads differently?

Quite frankly, I almost never used the "Followed" thing before. That appears to be much easier to use with Pekka's new software, but if the indicator that I've posted in a thread was more visible (which could be done by simply relocating the current notation), that would let me work pretty much the way I still do on almost all other forums that I frequent - by simply looking for an icon that tells me that I've posted in a thread.

Even though different forum software (and even different implementation of software like VBulletin) has different features, I visit a number of forums several times each day and prefer to use very similar methods of working on all of them.

If that is the way you do it, then I could see a new column for Your Replies with a count in it being helpful, and removing the Yours:# notation.

Something like that would work as long as it stood out visibly. What's there now works but it's simply very hard for me to see. Turning the text of the current notation into a significantly different color (red, for example) would probably do the trick but my old eyes just don't see the current notation very well because it's embedded in other text that varies in its content.

Whatever works has to for the community. Colors are not good methods in a UI to denote special indicators, unfortunately. Icons or columns with info would be better. If there are any changes on this, I am sure it will be for the better. :)

I do not have normal color perception so color indicators can be difficult for me. I have seen a few references to purple text and I am really not certain where purple is being used as it is one of the colors I have trouble seeing - looks blue to me usually, sometimes red - so a vote against heavy use of colors to identify states of the forum or post. Bold, underline and italics work much better to me. Font and font size can also work but might cause formatting problem.

There are several discussions about "color blind (external link)" photographers so I know I am not alone.

As a side note- if you click on the Your Home Page link at the top of the screen, it will show you a listing of all posts you have made, if you want to find one that you didn't follow.

You can also click the [MORE/REPORT/SHARE] under your avatar if you are in a thread- it will show your recent posts there as well.

Then how about making the "YOURS" boldface?

My dad is one such person, I forget which type of colorblindness he has, but he always states grass looks orange. I think he has a blue/green deficiency, so shades saturated as such all look the same? There is an orange/red type as well. I guess his receptors just cannot acknowledge certain wavelengths. He was into photography too, but it would be difficult these days using digital tools and files to clean up color, etc.

It would also be really nice to be able to EASILY search just IN A THREAD somehow, used to be a "search this forum" or "search this thread" link, made finding things much easier than the current SEARCH.

It is on the roadmap. In the interim, the 3 extra clicks (click In Thread(s), then click the currrent thread title, then close the thread chooser) will have to suffice. :(
