Having just switched my wide angle stuff from apsc to full frame, I am happy with the 17-40 and Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 UMC. Sadly, mine will never see a 1Dx. I use them on a 6D.

I use a 17-40L on my 7D and it is fantastic. At f/4 though edges get soft so on a FF I'd expect that to be even softer wider

No offense, but if a 15-30 2.8 would do the job, I'd rather have a 24L II. Two stops more aperture and most likely much better performance at f/2.8.

EDIT: I just looked up the Tamron. This thing is HUGE! It is 0.4" wider and 1.5" longer than the 24-70L II. And it weighs 2.4 pounds. Well, at least it has VC. That is what I call a specialty lens.

I think the 16-35 IS pretty much will take all.

Very best,

Zeiss 15mm or Canon TS-E 17mm. If a man can afford the flagship model, he can't justify using a cheap Korean lens with it. ;-)a

Rokinon 14mm is a masterpiece of a lens. For the price, everything is perfect!
My vote also goes for the 17-40L. I want one badly.

Depends on your budget and needs. Listed from most expensive to least in each category below:

Need f/2.8? Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L, Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8, or Rokinon 14mm f/2.8, depending on budget and zoom/print preference.

Don't need f/2.8? Canon 16-35mm f/4L IS, Canon EF 17-40 f/4L, or Tokina 17-35mm f/4, depending on budget.

Question is too generic.
If you don't need AF, get a Zeiss prime. The 21 ZE is excellent.

OK I'll be more specific, I DO need AF, and also would like to avoid vignetting as well.
