I have a lot of photos I would like to share on this forum and get some feedback. The problem I have is that I don't know how to resize images so they can be posted. I have tried to post in the past, but the posts always get rejected because the files are too big. I have both a PC and a MacBook with Lightroom and Photoshop on the Mac and Photoshop Elements on the PC.

The easiest way is with Lightroom. In the export dialogue box set the image size to 1000 x 1000 pixels

On the the old formated forum there was a "sticky" that described to the detail on how to do this. It helped me immensely. Maybe someone can post it for you.

An alternative is if you upload them to a site like Flickr, you can easily post the photos at the correct size.

You might want to try FastStone image resizer which is freeware. I've been using it for years to save space on Photobucket , Canon Image Gateway, and Nikon Image Space to name a few.

With the advent of the new forum format posting images has become much easier. You can post any pixel dimensions and file size of up to 5 MB. The AMASS software will do the resizing for you. Click on the UPLOAD IMAGES button on the left of the text box and this is what you will see:

To answer the OP question about properly sizing photos, (even though AMASS handles this issue now) he might not be posting a photo here but elsewhere...

  • See if your photo editor software has a Resize feature. PaintShop Pro, which I use, does. I then file the reduced pixel count image with a unique name (so as to preserve the original JPG) and post that shrunken file.

  • Alternatively, you can import JPG into programs like Lightroom just like RAW files, then use the Export function to output a new file with whatever pixel count you request.

You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! Keep POTN alive and well with member support https://photography-on-the.net/forum/donate.php

Thanks, everyone! I got Lightroom and am getting to know it a little. I should be able to resize and post. Thanks again!

Yeah, and the Lightroom Export dialog fills in a lot of blanks
