This combination never ceases to amaze me! ( Eh, Judy?;-)a )

I love that combination. I've got the 1.4x converter on my wish list, but my wish list is growing faster than my bank account.

Hi Judy,
Yeah, I know it is pricy, but....
Actually the 1.4 Mark II Extender works very well with the 400 and on the used market is a good bit cheaper, but the III is better and I figure it is worth it to me. Not so easy to find used ones, but at least I can try out the one I found. Curious to see if it really does add more than it takes away....

Three days later,
Judy,
it is worth it!
Target was about 17 meters (55 feet) away.

But the 400/1.4x III still can't compare with my 600mm scope, especially with the Extender III on it!

But then again, it is 1/3 the bulk. No way I can travel with the scope....

E-M1, EF 400mm f5.6L USM. Can anyone ID this bird? The behavior is very Flicker-like, hammering holes in the ground looking for insects, but it doesn't look like the other Flickers in my yard.

Lucky you! I think one was seen in England some time in the '60s.
At first I thought some kind of Thrush, so I had to ask a couple of experts. Sort of looks like the results of a wild party involving a Thrush and a Jay.:-D
