I wish I knew how it fell off.
Have to assume somehow the button was deflected enough to start the turn.
I normally hang onto the lense by the foot but hadn't got to that yet. Walked out side and went to grab the foot and it'd gone!

I love those couple shots.
And your bird feeder.
Excellent idea.

Yes I'd thought about the 300, but they're bumped up in price now as have all other lenses.
Second hand don't come often either. None about here

you will have the same problem with price what ever brand you go for , with this Covid lockdown effecting most countries it seems everyone has suddenly gained a interest in wildlife . worldwide . stuff is going for well above price and e/bay prices are often far dearer than buying from a retailer with warranty . this BTW will also apply to nikon gear , caveat emptor

I've done some checking.
Not excusing user error, but it's poor design on the EM1 2.
The button sits out on its own waiting to be caressed and.....

The EM52 button is round and sits inside a small collar. I've pressed the button towards the collar and nothing.
You have to press to within the rim before the pin actually disengages.

I also think, but maybe wrong, the button on the EM52 is "snappier". The pins both work nicely in 5 and 1 but the button could have (should) more resistance IMO in manufacture. All three feel to have same spring loading.

Be interested to hear from version 3 users and the button design.

Anyone with an EM1 3? And EM5 3? How is the button on that? Sticking up like a sore thumb or neatly in its own housing.

I've owned EM5 1 and 2 for yonks and with 60mm, 75-300mm, 40-150 2. 8, 12-40 2.8, taking them off and on at will and never had an issue.

Also the G9 users? How's that button setup?

Thanks

Richard

The lens release button on the E-M1 Mk III is exactly the same as that on the E-M1 Mk II. So that problem hasn't "gone away".

But it’s not simply a case of depressing the button and the lens releases though is it rich ,there has to be a physical turning of the mount ,and from my own experience with that lens it’s a bloody tight fit .. in fact I will go as far as to say it’s a far tighter fit than previously used mounts from canon .. and Nikon is far far worse and easily dismounted ..Unfortunately accidents do happen as in your case , luckily you have some insurance cover which May help to ease the pain .
Would it not be worth trying to seek out a used PL 100-400 as they don’t seem to go for much .or even new from the likes of panamoz or equiv. retailers

Used anything here are like hen's teeth :p
Priced a new 300 today $4400
$2200 when I bought the 100-400 late last year.

Re my 100-400 it's not that stiff in the bayonet.
But the barrel of the lens is.

Well that's pre collision :-P

here's what the poor thing looks like

Expand your e.bay search limits to world wide , I use there global shipping program when selling high end items .i.e I pay local postage then e.bay check it in warehouse and courier it on worldwide . So sold stuff all over the place worth checking out

oN MY G9 The bayonet is still quite stiff even when holding the button down. two hand job for me to remove a lens. I just tested it.

The PL 100-400 are still pricey in New Zealand.

I have seen that end part advertised ( possibly e.bay ) Richard . So it must be a repairable part .. and Chris having had both it’s a far tighter fit on a Olympus ,one of the reasons I tried that g9 a few weeks ago

You've got sunshine. That blackbird really glistens. I like the pose. Face full of food.

My lens is packed up to be shipped off. $70 including freight to assess damage and that comes off price if they can fix it.
Otherwise ship back with a note for the insurers for a replacement.

Your Sunshine, our rain and the 75-300mm didn't do too bad under the conditions

super couple of shots with that 75-300 lens Richard ,been wondering about one myself for the mk1 and wife to use keep the weight down .. .. good luck with sending the lens off but its probably a foregone conclusion unless a independent company can repair it ..

Thanks.
The thing I immediately noticed was the lightness and it just felt too light.
Its as though the extra weight dampens the movement. Weird, but it took a while to get the hang of holding it steady.
It's surprising the loss in reach.
Remember I'm chasing birds about as big as a golf ball with legs and a tail and a beak.
Not very big.
The kookaburra is different, but I really go after the wrens.

The lens repair. They are independent repairers, but ones with some relationship with Panasonic, plus Samsung. I just trust it doesn't drag on.

You are correct, the extra weight does make a stable platform. Competition only rifles are also very heavy compared to others.
