I'm very, very happy with my 7D2 purchase. I have determined it isn't a 5D3 because it lets in less light, but it is so good at what it is suppose to be good at - lots of frames per sec, more reach, very useable ISO 2500, can go higher but I think that is the sweet spot, noise reduction works very well at higher ISOs, and it makes the 70-200mm feel and act like a 300mm - which is awesome.

I have posted a few hockey pictures in a previous post but here is a few from tonights game.

All pictures are at ISO 2500, 1/640, 70-200 IS II @ 2.8

With the 5D3 I would be happy shooting at 3200 and 1/1000, but I have settled at 2500 and 1/640 with the 7D2.

My only complaint with the 7D2 is the battery does not last as long as the 5D3.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

I really don't understand how it lets in less light, might just be terminology.
The battery life must really suck then because my 5D3 is really not that good, at least compared to my old 1D2 which is older NiCad technology.

the 7D2 uses the new 'more powerful' battery quicker than the 5D3 uses the older battery - this I find not good (lets say 10% faster)

bigger sensor = more light - the testing, and my own experience, shows the 5D3 with its bigger sensor does in fact let in more / better light and thus 'I' think 3200 is the max ISO on a 5D3 for selling Professional work and I think I have concluded that with 3yrs more development by Canon that this equates to ISO 2500 on the 7D2's sensor (it cleans up better with noise reduction than the 5D3 as I can tell so far)

You're blowing out the ice. Can't even see any of the lines like the face off circle. Try taking some of the brightness and highlights down a notch.
Nice face and puck, but the white is just too hot.

Cheers !

Appreciate the comments - and I don't disagree. It is somewhat if not a deliberate decision on my part as I use Contrast in Lightroom (usually in the +25 range), but it does vary considerably by arena and I do not always do it, to make the arena glass more transparent. Part of my style or specifically what I enjoy doing, is getting not just the action on the ice, but capturing the parents watching the game with their expressions - especially when it is their son in the action. I know, as the parents come up often and express their thanks, that these pictures mean a lot to them and I think the added surprise is that they are part of the experience. In the loop we play in, the same parents have been there since the age of 6, and they are as much part of the scene, where they stand on the ice, who they stand next to, etc.

Thanks again for the comment and you are correct

Here are 2 examples from the last 2 games where the people watching are part of the action because of who they are (not always in focus clearly because of the Aperture but who they are is important)
