My SX160 has become my favorite travel camera. It has a long zoom, offers good manual controls, produces good pictures in automatic mode, it’s relatively compact (not shirt pocket, but I have carried it in my pants pocket), and the best part, it uses two AA batteries. I use the Ultimate Lithium batteries rather than rechargeable ones. That way when I’m traveling overseas I don’t have to worry about having a 220v adapter to recharge batteries. Also AA batteries are pretty much available anywhere I travel overseas. The camera was inexpensive enough so that it won’t kill me if something bad happened to it. Here are a few pics from a recent trip.

The long zoom really comes in handy when taking pictures of dangerous animals.

Nice set of images. Looks like you have a found a nice camera that fits your needs well.

I use the SX280 HS (and before that a SX260) for my "pocket camera" when on business travel or just bumming around locally. Decent "reach" and good image quality (I think). It does the job that I need. Here are a couple examples (first one is from the SX260 and the other two with the SX280):

Of course if I'm going on a trip where photography is a major element of the trip, I'll be carrying my SX50 (with the SX280 as a back-up).

Glass half full...

I love this thread! Yes I love using my 5DM3, but sometimes I'd rather travel with a grab-n-go camera. Mine is the G16. I've taken it to NYC a couple times. Love it!

UPDATE: Note that the EXIF info doesn't indicate these were done with the G16. They were. The G16 is not currently in the POTN equipment database.

Nice photos for sure. Since the successor to my SX160 now uses a rechargeable lithium battery my next camera will probably be the SX280 HS or its successor.

My primary travel camera is the G16. I also carry an SX700HS for the zoom shots. Both have Digic 6 processors and record 1920 x 1080 video at 60fps which is a huge plus for me. Right now it is the perfect combination. They both fit in my Cargo shorts and pants.

SX700HS below Grand River Creative Corridor in Detroit, MI. This is awesome to see. https://www.facebook.com/GRCCDETROIT (external link)

My favorite travel camera is my S100 because I have a belt case for it. It’s out of the way until I want it. A DSLR would have been too large and too much stuff to pack. They are also a target for thieves.

Nice pics with the sx160. I have it but have never gotten snaps that good. I may have to try it some more.

Hey Hans, so true about the DSLRs in some areas. How does the S100 compare to the G7X?

I have never used the G7X but I have to assume it to be better than the S100
