24-70 f/4: will it go back to full price?

Just looking for opinions. Do you think the 24-70 f/4L IS will go back to full price? I bought one as a kit with my 7D II and am looking to sell it locally once the price (hopefully goes back to normal. Advice? TIA

i doubt it ever goes back to the original retail price...it was overpriced, and not selling...so the price has dropped...it'll probably stay around where it is

Depends on what you mean by full price.. If you mean it's original introductory price, no. If you mean will it go up in price, then yes. There's currently a $200 rebate offered. At some point Canon will stop renewing those, or will offer a lower rebate.

This probably won't help you in the short term (next 6 months or so), as there are a ton of people like you who have these for sale.

No. The market is set the current price lower than Canon target price, the price will increase $50 or $100 from market price but never will go back to full price. F4 normal zoom is very regular lens, a lot of alternative lens can replace it, not like the 50 f1.0 or 200 f1.8.

It will not go above the $1k mark IMHO.

Well right now it's $800 Canadian. Normally $1320, but there are 320 savings right now, plus a $200 instant rebate (locally). I'm just hoping it goes back to at least a grand.

If you don't need it, sell it now. Inflation is making it worth a few cents less every day, even if the price doesn't go down. Buy something you need with the cash, or put a down-payment on that 1Dx you've been looking at.

That doesn't make any sense. I'm certain the price will increase again; I'm just not sure by how much. I don't need the cash so I'm in no rush. Just trying to gauge how long I should wait and predict it's actual MSRP.

You plan to sit on a lens that was not popular, and was over-priced, to start with. Canon is currently selling refurbs for $679, that will drive the resale value down. Canon is introducing the 24-105 STM later this month at $599. That will drive your resale value down, plus kill your market for anyone doing video on full frame. New price doesn't drive used prices, the market does. Witness the 24-105L. The market for this lens is not going to get better. Just my opinion.

With the reductions of lens prices due to currency, it seems the used market isn't quite what it used to be. I have noticed that it is much more difficult to sell a used lens nowadays. I can't even get rid of my 30mm sigma for $250. A couple years ago this would have sold in no time.

The advantage of this is that there has never been a better time to buy lenses. Although I think some lenses have confusing price points still.

You can get the 24-70 F4 new for under $700. I am not quite sure who would buy the 24-70 F2.8 for 2.5 times more that cost for a stop extra light except for the pros who need it in make it or break type shots.

The lens will go back to $999, it isn't going to go higher anytime soon.

even if the lens goes back up to close to $1,000 the used value of it just isn't going to be that high...it's starting to be thrown into kits for cheap(recently $280 with the 7D II), it's refurbished for $629...i think you'll be lucky to get $600

I agree that it should definitely be possible to sell it for 900$ (let's not forget Aressem is speaking in terms of CDN, not USD).

Plus, the price for the lens with the 7D2 was 450 CDN (with tax), and that was a pre-order special, not a kit. I don't know that this offer would be repeated any time soon, and I sure don't expect we'll see them at such a price in a regular kit any time soon. Until recently, at least, the 6D+24-70 f4L still sold for more than the kit with the 24-105L.

If you can get $900 for a used lens that is on sale right now for $799CAN new, then more power to you.
