Can anyone recommend an Arca / Swiss compatible screw clamp to retrofit onto a Manfrotto 498RC2 head ?

For the few times I use my tripod I really don't need to upgrade right now, a clamp will be more than fine.

Only requirement I have is a spirit level on the clamp.

Any good recommendations ?

Thanks !

Check this thread.

Thanks for the link but I don't think that applies to my particular situation - I believe the Manfrotto ball heads are unique, I know there are a ton of clamps out there, just wanted some advice from anyone experienced with the Manfrotto.

Thanks !

I've decided after looking around that I'm going to with an entire new Sirui ballhead instead.

Have you seen this one?
(EDIT: Guess you have.  )

The Hejnar comes as a conversion kit or in parts, installation is pretty straight forward:

I did the conversion with the Desmond parts using this:
https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=16907529
and this:
https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=16910335

Quite cheaper overall and still allows use of an RC2 plate. ;-)a

I would go this route but it seems like I need this adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H5BSIZ6 (external link)

Says no longer available ?

Yeah, that part makes the clamp more stable. I just got it a few weeks ago. Shows, currently unavailable. Who know IF it'll ever come back. Bummer.

There was a kit too:
http://www.amazon.com …kCode=as2&tag=scvphoto-20 (external link)
but currently unavailable as well. -?

I mean, the plate is quite useful. You can use RC2 and Arca-Swiss on the same ballhead - perfect solution for transitioning imho. I can keep a lookout for the adapter piece.

There's 2 Hejnar options:
3-1/4 clamp
http://www.hejnarphotostore.com …ath=16_41&products_id=256 (external link)
and 2-3/8 clamp
http://www.hejnarphotostore.com …ath=16_41&products_id=170 (external link)

which are 1 piece and Arca-Swiss only but $70.

I have one of their clamps and it is very nicely made.

For $70 I'd like it to have a spirit level at least -

Judging from the posts of many Manfrotto head owners on this forum an Arca-Swiss type of head is a good solution to their various woes.

I don't use spirit levels very much as the one on my 1DX seems to be more accurate. When shooting landscapes I normally rely on Live view to achieve level as, often, the scene can look canted to one side even if it is actually level.
I hadn't actually noticed that there wasn't a spirit level on mine!

I have the K40X and can thoroughly recommend it, though it is a bit of a lump! Also have a look at the k30X.

If you are likely to use your 300 F2.8 on your ball head then the k40X is probably the better option. I don't like using big lenses on ball heads but others do.
