Question: I've been using a Mac to process lately - then I've used that Mac to burn Tiffs to a CD or DVD. Typically there is no problem, but I've had two clients recently who couldn't access the files on the discs. When they opened the discs, they said that the discs looked blank. What's going on? Is anybody else having problems like this?

Before you ask - yes, I made sure that the discs were completed. I even ejected them, reinserted them, and the files were there on my Mac.

Thanks for your help.

Could just be reader compatability issue, not a mac/pc issue? Might help some of the more educated members if you indicate brands of madia and readers.

When burning the CD, make sure that you set the file system to ISO 9660 so that it'll be compatible with both PCs and Macs. That'll also allow you to burn multiple sessions on the CD if you need to (assuming you haven't closed the CD).

I'll verify that we're doing ISO 9660. As for multi sessions, we're not bothering with that. We typically send a final CD/DVD at the end of a project - plus the media is cheap enough nowadays that burning a second disc isn't a problem. Thanks for the feedback.

As for brands of media and readers - media is all name-brand media; fuji, tdk, maxell, etc... Readers - I'm not sure, every client has a different computer and the people using them wouldn't be able to tell us anything more than "Dell" or "Mac."

If you are using Mac OSX to burn the disc you should not have to select anything to make that CD Mac/Windows compatible. I do this constantly and never have a problem. I have however had some problems with image file formats saved on the Mac that the PC sees as corupt files. There are a few bugs somewhere in the translation but for the most part I have hed excellent results with images and CDs with images. I would check to see f it is being burned by the Mac OS or perhaps Toast, which although is a great problem, if you don't have certain versions working with certain versions of the Mac OS you can also have some trouble.

We are using Toast - we found that it burns things a lot faster than Mac OSX when it comes to DVDs.

I used Toast as well, there is a setting that lets you choose Mac / PC . I always choose for both types when I burn a CD.
