I prefer the high country too, but obviously there are some nice places in the Valley. This was may first time shooting Half Dome from the Valley.

Mike- Did I read that correctly? This was your first time shooting Half Dome from the valley? Wow. After all these years of great Yosemite photography. That must be some kind of record.
BTW- Nice shot. It really conveys the mood of a calm sundown.

Normally I shoot at least two different exposures. In this one, I was able to capture it in one exposure, but I processed it twice. I used Tony Kuyper's Layer Masks to blend them.
