Tomorrow I am going to look at a used 60D body. What should I be keep an eye out for. I will bring along a lens to take some test shots with.

Heya,

Look at the mirror.
Look at the view finder.
Check all the buttons.
Get a shutter count, so you're not buying an end-of-life camera.

With the lens, check it at a white wall or light source, at F22, looking for what all is on the sensor.
With the lens, do a long exposure shot with the cap on (15 seconds should be enough). Do this at ISO 100 and the maximum ISO. Looking for how many hot pixels. If you see a rainbow, that's pretty bad. But it should be pretty black with only a few specks or dots of hot pixels if it hasn't been generously used.

Test focus ability at near and far ranges to ensure the system works, in good light (don't do this in fluorescent or dark light and then worry if it misses).

And don't pay more than $400 for a really good condition one like this. Because you can get a 60D from Canon Refurb with a warranty for $430. (external link)

Very best,

Very best,

Thank you for all that. I have had my eye on the refurb store but the 60D has been out of stock since 1 hour after the rebates started :(
