I just bought a MeFoto Roadtrip travel tripod and am very happy with it. Small, light, decent head that can pan. certainly would be easy to take with you on your bike. mefoto.com for more info. I also tried a befree from Manfrotto but returned it, not as stable and the head can't pan, has no level built in.
mefoto comes with a nice bag, uses a regular allen wrench, not some odd thing (so if you loose the supplied one a new one is cheap and easy to find, probably even in your garage) and the head is much better. Also uses 'universal' clamp in the Arca Swiss design.

Hello there,

I have a 60D + a 17-55 f/2.8 and a 50 f/1.8. I would love to buy a tripod so I can start shooting landscapes especially in low light and without having a blurred image as the final result. What kind of tripod do you recommend me. I'd like it to be easily transportable so I can bring it with me on hikes and even during winter times. I have been told to buy manfrotto, but they are pretty expensive right now. Let me also tell you guys that I don't know much about tripod ball heads too. My budget would be CAN$150 max.

Thank you

I've been using the cheap Induro A-113 aluminum for more than 4 years now. Got it on sale from Amazon for a mere $25 one day. Haven't looked back. Had to send it in for service once due to excessive sand inside (Grand Canyon photography does this sometimes :) ). But other than that, I've purchased Adorama Flashpoint F-2 ballhead for $50, and there you go. Tripod + ballhead for $75.

what about Dolica? I heard the Ax620B100 is a good model for the price.

I believe Dolica and Induro are the same company. I own Induro, and it appears to be the same as one of the Dolica models, which is also aluminum. I believe the branding is the only thing different.

^ Entirely possible. Induro is a Benro brand and Benro has a huge OEM business. The original Benros were very good Gitzo copies but they are now gradually being superseded by flashier, slightly more unique designs. I use both Benro and Gitzo tripods and some parts are interchangeable - I have Benro parts on a Gitzo and vice versa.

It's impossible to know how many brands Benro OEMs components and even whole tripods for. They're a bit upscale with Induro, cost reduced with brands like MeFoto and Fotopro and then there's the regular Benro stuff. They are good tripods, you get about 85% of Gitzo quality at 50% of the price. Good luck with your new tripod!
