I'm in the market for a remote shutter switch for timed shots using my 6D.
I want something simple but one that works well. I have ruled out wireless at this point.
I would like to hear from anyone having the Canon RS-80N3 switch.

Thanks.

I purchased this remote because it is a wireless remote, as well as a wireless intervalometer.

It works well, just be aware it may not come with the CR2 battery that is needed, you would have to pick one up online or at Radio Shack. It will need AAA batteries too. My only real beef with the product. The controls take some reading and understanding initially.

i have been using the canon TC-80N3 timer remote controller, with all my cameras for over 2 years now and it works vary well for taking time laps, also takes the 3 volt battery that seems to last forever!the quality of this unit is vary well made and i have had 0 problems with it,but its expensive as i had mine shipped from china to beat the US prices!about $65.what other things would you like to no.

This will be the one I buy. Have heard good things about it. You can set the timer on this one for long exp.

First off, the RS-80N3 is the shutter release. The TC-80N3 is the timer remote.

Both items are overpriced. I have the RS-80N3 and my only regret is spending $60 on it when a $6 unit does the same thing.

Likewise, there are $10-15 timer remotes on eBay and Amazon that do the same job (I have five of them).

How much does that save compared to one USD 60 item, then?

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.
When we get back home from Christmas travel, I'm going to order the RS-80N3 from B&H for $42.00.

Wait what? Are you implying I was replacing them?

I have five because I've had to run five cameras simultaneously.

The Canon timer is ~$150. So the answer to your question is I saved around $700.

Aha. That wasn't obvious to me from the first post.

I have two of them, one for the 6D and one for the 60D, they both work great!...............

For anyone who doesn't have this - unless you want to use it with 2 cameras at once, you don't need to buy multiple kits. Vello makes just the cord for a whole variety of camera models. I have both the Version 1 and the Version 2 with Canon cables and picked up just the cable for the Nikon D300s I sometimes use out at NASM Garber. The Version 1 (sold as a Pearstone) has a bug - while it'll handle interval settings of most lengths when you wire the controller direct to the camera, when you hook the receiver to the camera and try to use the controller remotely on interval setting, it can't cope with 1 minute or longer intervals. Takes one frame and stops. The Version 2 does just fine.

I didn't know vello made a 3 pin to mini plug adaptor cord for the remote shutter. If I had known that I could have saved some coin. Learn something new everyday...............

My mistake - the wireless Shutterboss is the one you can get multiple cables for. The wired one, you need one for each type of remote release (makes the wireless still more attractive!).
