Hey folks,

So I know there's the EE-S, EG-S, etc, for the 5D series, 6D, and then there's the other one for the 1D series.

But what about everything else?

It seems Canon doesn't care about producing a manual-focus friendly focus screen for their Rebels or even the XXD line cameras.

So is there a third party system that produces these? Any ideas?

I'd love to turn some of these old XSi cameras I have laying around into manual focus capable cameras (without using Live View).

Thoughts?

Very best,

I haven't looked it up in a while but I had a precision focusing screen on my 50D that I bought...so at least for that camera they are out there. With newer cameras tehy are using on demand grids which don't support this.

I am personally not sad to see them go.

Rebels (nnnD) are considered 'entry level' and they are not designed for user-swappable focus screens, ergo Canon does not offer any options.

Third party focus screens are available, but they required installation by someone using a bit of care and caution and screwdrivers. And aftermarket screens often provide center focusing aids that cause light metering errors which are not compensated suitably via CFn settings to correct them.

Generally speaking, if you move up to the 'prosumer' bodies (nnD series) or the 'pro' bodies (nD series) the cameras come with easily changeable focus screen mechanism (no screwdriver required), with Canon-provided options with matching CFn meter-correction settings.
