Why are links to threads different?

Some links to threads are just links to the thread. Some links add the "goto=newpost" at the end. Why? There is a link to the right "go to first unread" if I want to go to the new post. Clicking on a thread and being taken somewhere other than the top of the thread that I'm clicking on is annoying. I looked for an option to change this behavior, but I don't see one.

"goto=newpost" is EXACTLY like in the old POTN.

When you click a thread you have not read, ever, you are taken to page one. The "vanilla" readmarking jumps in and the next time you see that link, you are taken to the first unread PAGE, or on the last page, post. The goto=newpost is just an old POTN compatible URL variable.

"Go to first unread" is a verbal link for same functionality.

When you follow a thread, goto=newpost is no longer there, then the "per post" follow kicks in.

I do not remember vBulletin ever doing this - I could always go to page one by just clicking the text link. Now, when you click the icon for the new post, sure it would take you there.

Yes, sorry, the method is the same, now you click the header. As you can see there is now [PAGE 1] which takes you to the first page, and there is also the last page link on every thread that has more than 1 page.

So here is an issue this causes:

1 - Open new thread never read.

2 - Read page 1 - reply to a post on page 1.

3 - Click on page 2, start to read page 2.

4 - Want to check something on page 1 - so go back.

Instead of going back to the previous page, it took me to the end of the thread.
