The only thing that bothers me about this I'd it should have been fitted as standard from new and the silly prices I have seen published so far tend to be around the £300/ $300 sort of price range .and if sigma do read this I personally think they should support those that support them and offer a free of charge exchange .
The original foot is a mistake on there part and present owners should not really be charged for that .time will tell

I need a question answered ,as you have seen from my photos my lens is extremely sharp on close to mid range targets I.e up to approx 250 yards/metres after that I,m noticing a degradation in I.q .,in fact I would say that if I still had my old 400 canon it would be sharper after cropping to the same size than this lens at 600mm .been trying via testing to pin it down to aperture ,servo mode ,etc the lens is pin sharp till it hits that magical distance then goes downhill fast is the best way to put it .
So is anyone else suffering /noticing the same . I don't want to change my lens as its sharp for most shots but this is annoying to say the least

IQ definitely does suffer when reaching out with this lens. I discovered this today. I have only used this lens on a crop body (7D MK II ).
A question, is it recommended to turn IS off when on a tripod? Haven't looked at all my images on the computer yet, but in the camera handheld looked sharper than mounted with IS on.

yes turn off when on tripod ,you have to learn its limitations .i suppose being a f6.3 maximum it does need light the better the quality the better the performance .something we don't get a lot of this year in the northern u.k

I am however SO Glad that OEMs are finally starting to put the Arca rail right on the foot.
That Canon did not do this with the foot for the new 100-400mm is just daft.
Go SIGMA for innovating the obvious again! ( and I mean that as a compliment! )

It is always recommended to switch IS off when using a tripod. Not only for this lens.

Re. the IQ suffering when reaching out may not only have to do with the lens. The further away your subject, the longer the light has to travel through air that may cause distortion. On hot days that can be very obvious, but also on cooler days there still may be temperature gradients in the path causing a slight distortion.

Oh yeah big difference. The shots are with the IS off, and finally with good light.

Sigma recommends IS off when mounted. I'm finding mixed results. I find with the SS is lower than focal length OS needs to be on when mounted. I personally like the stillness in the viewfinder with OS on, but if the SS is high the sharpness seems to suffer. :(
