Thanks fox. The only "looking down" on things I try to do is if I'm shooting something at my feet :)
Oh, and I used a 1DMk IV - not a Dx. As much as I'd love to have one, I'll pass if it means I have to become a snob :)
Literally just got it, and haven't done a thing with it in regards to MA or anything.
Is there other manners in which to tweak that I should be aware of? Haven't even checked the firmware as I don't have a dock - yet.
Probably something one should consider picking up...
Thanks for the welcome gang!

ah thought you were using a 1dx ,anyway the dock is a total must have .it goes beyond what you can do in camera i.e m/a .for a start you get a firmware update if needed (not sure on the newer lenses) and then you can tweek how your focus works i.e focus limiter distance in either C1 and C2 ,then you can have focus either working as standard or fast or accurate ,then you can change the way the i.s works i find that as most of my stuff is walkabout birding and hand holding the lens that dynamic i.s works best for me .for the peanuts it costs the dock brings photography out of the dark ages and puts the variables back into the end users hands

cheers jeff

Can anyone comment on the difference in sharpness between the sigma sport at 600mm and the 400L 5.6 with 1.4 III..
I am finding it hard to choose which way to go..going to use it for wildlife (mainly Deer) on a 6D... I am not bothered about loosing autofocus with the 400 combo, just after the sharpest option.
Been following this thread and have seen some great images.
Many thanks..

I only have the 1.4 II, but I'd say image quality between the 400L/1.4 combo and the Sigma are very close. I tried to find a couple examples that are reasonable comparisons. The first two images filled the frame, so they required little to no cropping:

400L/1.4II:

IMAGE: https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8779/16939259619_a80bb6a16b_b.jpg

Sigma:

IMAGE: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5703/20771121385_bda155d2d2_b.jpg

These two both required significant crops to fill the frame, as they were taken from a long distance:

400L/1.4II (this is the farther away of the images, and required the heaviest crop, also terrible light)

Just for weight and portability, if you don't care about AF, zoom and are willing to work a little harder for good quality images, I would go with the 400L/1.4 (but also remember you will lose almost two stops). The 400L also has a 77mm front element, so you probably already have filters to fit it. That said, I do enjoy the Sigma and like the versatility of the zoom. It's a bit of a handful, though.
