Looking for a lower end body and lens for my daughter who has expressed some interest in getting in to photography. Not Looking to spend a ton but let me know if you have anything that might work. Thanks.

"Lower end" is pretty subjective. To some folks, that may mean an XSi/18-55 IS. To others, it could be a 6D/24-105. An approximate price range or camera model may help elicit responses.

Yes I suppose you are right. Ok so then Xs/Xsi or 30d somewhere in that range.

realizing that this is not an advice thread, as a long time XSi user I'm going to give some anyway. :P The XSi has a lot of advantages over either the Xs or 30D. Check out the color chart at the bottom of this page. http://en.wikipedia.org …Canon_EOS_digital_cameras (external link)

The 5D is the only Digic II camera i would consider and the Xs is the only Digic III camera i would NOT consider. The Digic II 1D series might not fit your price range.

Notice the difference between the XSi and XS here: http://snapsort.com …non_EOS_Digital_Rebel_XSi (external link)

Ignore that they claim it is a tie. IMO, the advantages of the XS are not only minor from a shooting standpoint, but generally insignificant from a technical standpoint. The XSi has a better focusing system, bigger screen and higher ISO among other important differences.

Also make sure you get a 18-55 II or the newer STM.

Why not a Canon T3? That's an excellent camera for a beginner :).

FWIW, I don't know anyone that thinks a 6D with 24-105 is "lower end".

Personally, neither do I. However, if I shot a 1Dx and a bag of L-primes, it would cross my mind.

At that price range, I would look on the bay for an XSi + kit lens, or a 50 F1.8 II. That should clock in around $200. Great camera with a fast prime.

Very best,
