As some may know, we live quite far back in the woods on a narrow gravel rd. This Fall we had a major flash flood in which over 6 inches of rain fell within a few hrs. Needless to say the water did some major damage to the roadways, and the surrounding lands. We were not at home when it happened, and came back to find that we could not drive home. SO, parked the car on high ground and hiked through the bush in the dark, in water up to our thighs, 3+ km, and made it home safe and sound. A little cold and wet, but home at last. We awoke to this in the am. Took two days before road crews could get a makeshift passable rd to us. Luckily we had the four wheelers and could walk past the worst, if needed be.

Road washout approx 1km from home.

Tried the other way out, but to no avail.

Got past that first one, and there were a couple more nasty ones.

End of the line this way also. This is a hill at end of our road where it comes out to tarmac rd. They had it paved to keep gravel from washing out, but as you can see this was just a little much for it.

In looking up.

Up looking down.

If that keeps up you will need a wench on the front of that 4-wheeler and a rack to carry shovels.

A wench would be a novel attachment to see, but I guess a winch is more likely :p
