I am reading great things about Domke bags, but some users have pointed out that the ruggedwear material has a waxy finish that could come off.

Curious, do all Domke bags use this material, or are some the more traditional canvas material? I'm specifically looking at the F-5XA for a very small bag.

Only those bags that specifically state "Ruggedwear" have the waxy material. If you get a tan, olive or black, you'll be assured of not getting Ruggedwear; there are also brown canvas Domkes that aren't Ruggedwear. But the F5XA doesn't come in Ruggedwear at all; you get either tan ("Sand") or olive (although the picture on the Tiffen site for an olive F5XA is actually a Ruggedwear F3!).

Awesome, thanks so much!

The ruggedwear coating can also be easily refreshed for renewed water proofing. Just like a good waxed canvas coat.

I like the Ruggedwear material. I don't understand why it isn't offered as an option on all of their bags.
