The red-whiskered bulbul is a native of tropical Asia but enough escapees or deliberate releases have reseulted in stable populations in various cities in the world, the Los Angeles area being one of them.

Here is one I photographed outside my window in Pasadena, CA. A gang of them visit my backyard regularly to scavenge for nesting material. They have a beautiful song and I very much enjoy their visits.
