Nice shots. In photo number one is that the Loch monster in the background?

Thanks Annie. There has always been a stable breeding population in Scotland of around 150 pairs. However, in recent years numbers have been increased by the provision of nesting rafts (external link), so they are not so vulnerable to large fluctuations in water levels drowing their nests (hydroelectric a particular problem there). Up to 240 pairs in 2012. Loch Craggie has a nesting raft on it, which I presume they use.

Thanks for the info, Col. I had no idea there were so many down your way. Our lone loon swims about in the sea lochs and I've never seen a pair.
