I'm enjoying everyone's photos taken with this remarkable new lens! I'm hoping to get some snowy owls in January or February. They are one of my favorite birds.

Here's an eagle from the Nooksack River (WA state) taken earlier today. 7D2 + 100-400 II @400 + 1.4x III:

^Darts, That's as good a GBH capture I've seen. The lighting and details are superb! :)

The sun came out today so I stopped at the local park after work with my 7D2 and the new 100-400L. The autofocus on this thing coupled with the 7D2 is really really fast.

I finally got my first duck shot with it!

I find the IS on this lens is far superior to the 70-200 f/2.8 II.

Blimey!
Are you serious?

If that is true....this gets me thinking.....

Cheers

Yes, for me that is true. I use the 70-200 for a lot of panoramic landscapes and over the years have determined that the maximum speed (with IS) is 1/125 with the lens at 200mm. I've been taking sharp shots with this lens at 300mm and 400mm at 1/100, and as low as 1/60. I posted a photo on the lens sample thread of a Red Deer Stag taken hand-held at 1/100 at 400mm. I wouldn't even have attempted this with the 70-200 and 2xIII extender. It's a stunning lens IMHO. :-D

Awesome photos in this thread. Just picked up a 1d mk IV so I need to wait awhile before I can come up with the money for this one. Definitely on my short list.
Gotta question: Are you guys using any type of filter with the Mk II. My 1-4 mk I, does not play well with any filter. Just curious.
Keep them coming.

I don't use any kind of filter with any of my lenses, except for a polarizer or ND when particularly called for.

I rented this lens, but unfortunately it is rainy nowadays and couldn't have a chance to shot under full sun.
After following this forum daily for more than three years, here is my first photo post !

Got my long-anticipated mkII last week (having been a mkI user for 7 years). Still getting used to how much better the IS is... From habit I've been taking shots at 1/200s when I could have got the same shot (at much lower ISO) at 1/30s! I took a rock-steady shot at 400 mm at 1/20s hand-held, when testing it.

First time outdoors with it, I was a bit overly cautious (I was up a hill and being buffeted by wind) and could have gone slower on the landscapes, though obviously moving birds still needed faster shutters (hence higher ISOs), and the problem here in gloomy Scotland in winter is that it is essentially dark all day! In the dim light, the AF (with 5DIII) was struggling to pick out BiFs (I was into ISO 1000s by this time). Anyway, very impressed with the sharpness and IS, and well worth the upgrade from the mkI.

A few from Tuesday afternoon's messing about...
