Thanks Jake, that's the advantage of a zoom telephoto lens. I first lock the subject on wide end of the lens because it's much easier and then start zooming till 400mm. The AF of this lens is so good that it didn't miss or hunt even when we keep moving and zooming really fast.

Another thing is, the best time to shoot small fast moving birds is when it's windy. The birds movement is much slower when they try to fly against the wind.
