Hello everyone.
I am looking at the A7R ad the A77ii.
I currently use a FF Nikon, and use my beloved 17-35 and 28-70 2.8 gems.I also use the 70-200 vr1
I think If I understand correctly...I can get an adapter to mount these onto the two Sony bodies.
My question is how will they work..ie....AF etc?
Any response is appreciated.
Ken

Sadly no. You can mount your Nikon lenses on the a7R, but the Nikon to E-mount adapters are all disappointing in my experience. Unlike the Canon to E mount smart adapters, which allow autofocus, aperture control, and pass lens EXIF data to the camera, Nikon to E adapters are completely dumb. My Metabones adapter imcludes a very nice/smooth aperture ring for changing apertures, however there are no detents and you have to do a little math with the shutter speeds to figure what aperture you're on.

Also, since your files won't have any lens data in the EXIF file, lens profiles in your raw converter will be mostly useless to correct distortion.

awesome info David....thanks so much.
SO help me a little more. please.
I have a couple options.
I could sell off my nikon lenses, and replace, lets say the 70-200 2.8..with the Canon version the same...and use that on theSony...OR should I save a LOT more mad money, and get the G sony version?
You post suggests the CANON would function fine.SO I am thinking replacing the Nikons with Can lens might be a smart , cost effective move at the beginning of the switch over.
Your thoughts.
Thanks in advance for any reply

The Canon lenses will AF with a smart adapter, but it is very slow. If you want good AF performance, I think you're much better off with the native Sony lenses. If you're interested in considering the native FE 70-200, there is a nice discussion from trustworthy photographers about that lens here: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1335083?b=2 (external link)

Unless you really need an f/2.8 lens I recommend going with the native FE-mount lenses and getting the a7 II. Photozone gave it one of their rare "highly recommended" ratings: http://www.photozone.de …70-sony70200f4oss?start=1 (external link)
Also, if autofocus is really important to you, bear in mind that the a7R is the worst performing camera in the a7 series with regards to auto-focus. But, then again, if you want that D800E 36MP sensor, then the a7R may be the best fit. Pick your poison: good AF with 24MP sensor = a7 II, not-as-good AF with 36MP sensor = a7R.

As an idea, you could order your a7 II (or a7R) with the Sony FE 70-200mm from a retailer with a great no-questions-asked return policy (B&H or Adorama highly recommended for this), and if you don't like the lens after trying it out for a week or so, then just return it and order the Canon model.

Another consideration, for lenses, are the Sony A-mount - I haven't tried them, but I believe they autofocus much faster on the Sony E-mount.

Sorry to throw a lot of stuff at you - just want to suggest everything I can think of. For my part, I use manual focus lenses on my a7R, so AF performance isn't important to me.
