I looked, but did not see a thread with the settings for the 7DmkII camera, if there is, please point me to it...
(This is not about any focus issues or lenses, there are other threads for that)
Preferably, I would like it to be about fast moving objects, birds (mainly for me anyway) and sports, etc.

My idea is to (hopefully) have others that have the camera show their settings, that way we can all compare to see if something works better, or worse. I have to say that I don't own one yet, but I am interested, but a friend just got one, and I hope to help out. Remember, I don't have one to look at, so I can't really suggest what should be included, but if you could please help out, it'd be really helpful.
(Case settings, and all that you can think of...)

If you are interested, please show your settings in a way that is clear and to the point, and hopefully the following poster will do the same, please try to make them look really similar so that it won't get too 'crazy' on your eyes and brain, or, my eyes and brain... :) If some some reason you don't think this is a good idea, please don't argue the point, if we all do it it may help out some, but getting off topic and arguing won't help much.

I'm only trying to help, and if we (meaning you because I don't own one) all help, it might make it easier for not just the experienced, but for the first time 7DmkII owners too.
So, if possible, please try and do it in a way that is clear and easy to read, kind of like a chart would show, really short and to the point. Maybe after some are posted, there can be a version made that is more to what users would like to see, short and sweet.

A 400mm or thereabouts lens would also be a good starting place since most that shoot the above mentioned will probably use, no tele-converters right now, that would only complicate things, I think, later though, that would be a good idea.

Thanks, I appreciate it!:-)

Randy

I set mine up just like my 1Dx

Basic settings would be just like any other camera.

For the AF, I use case 1 or 2 and move the tracking to -1. 1st/2nd shot priority set to focus for both. AF adjust every lens you are planning to use with the camera body including TCs. I use back button focusing with metering on the shutter. I am not a fan of the zone systems in either the 7D2 or my 1Dx, so I stick with single point or single expanded and then will offset a little to the right or left if I want to get creative or just crop later.

Seems like there is a thread on how to make the AF system in the 5d3/1Dx/7d2 work on here. Couldn't put my hands on it right away though. And, let's make no mistake about it - the AF system in the 3 bodies while very similar is also very different and they are not the same regardless of what Canon says.

Thanks, and you're probably right, there may be a thread already, but my searches didn't find one on the 7DmkII.

Your settings sound good to me, and I like the fact that you pointed out the part about the Zones, that will probably help a lot knowing that.

Lens (Make and mm):

Auto-Focus: Case 1 or 2/Tracking to -1/1st/2nd shot priority set to focus for both

Zone Settings: None

Single Point or Single Expanded:
.
.
.
To all: Please continue to add to this in this style (if it works for you) so it will be easy to read. Any additional wording can be made too, of course, but I'll only add the necessary camera settings like it states in the camera itself, if I can, if not, please correct me.

Thanks again Huntersdad, I really do appreciate you starting this off in a good way. :)

Just for reference Randy, lens makes no difference to me. I do not change the setting based on the lens used.

Just a note based on the comment on the individual lens adjustment and I don't assume to be an expert on lens adjustment by any means, just posting info about what I found for my 7DII. I had the opportunity to use the focus tune software with Lens Align and found a decent amount of variation between various lenses. I had from a plus 9 to a minus 3, but most of the tweeks were on the plus side. The largest adjustment was a plus 9 on a 85mm f1.8 lens. Contrast this with my 6D where almost no adjustments were needed to any lens.
