Whoops! I should have read his post more carefully; I missed the "EF-S" part.
Would having a 400mm made for 1.6 crop sensors really save any appreciable size or weight? I thought those advantages were pretty much negated with the longer focal lengths.

In the olden days there was a big difference in size of lenses for 35mm vs 120 format, so I'm just assuming the same would be the case for APS-C and FF. I note that the EF-S 24mm/2.8 is less than half the weight of the EF 24mm/2.8.

It would be wonderful to have a lighter 400mm with perhaps even a larger aperture just for APS-C bodies.

For reference the Olympus Zuiko 300 f/2.8 used on even smaller sensors is still 3.2kg vs the Canon 300/2.8 Mk2 at 2.4kg

While the 7D is not even close to the image I can get with a functioning 7DII the lens works as I would expect thats for sure. and Ya it all about what tech at canon did to my camera. I honestly don't know what that is.

Ha , After shooting the 100-400LII on the 7D I can say honestly the 7DII brings my 100-400LII alive and I find the 7D may have been happier with the 70-300L,..but I maybe just a little spoiled using the 7DII for the last year. I know that now.

Warbirds down under at Temora airshow 2015. Love this lens and the slow shutter speeds it allows you to use!

What a great show Temora put on. Gotta say I agree with you about the IS and the slow shutter speeds it allows, here are three of mine from the Friday evening, complete with the by then only mildly strong wind, at 1/30th of a second.

Nice! I only went down to 1/50s for the engine starts, and around 1/160s for most of the aerial shots. Even then that corsairs big blades were still visible!

I was convinced that Fridays' flying was going to be scrubbed, so I got caught on the wrong side of the Air Force fence during Friday's start up! ߘ

You guys convinced me a long time ago. Just got my refurb (with 15% discount was only $1,492). Just my luck today was foggy and not a bird in the sky. Can't wait for a nice day! I'm surprised at how easy it handles and how balanced it seems on the 7D Mark II. The packaging was on the skimpy side, even for a refurb. No box (not even a Powershot box - just bubble wrap) and no strap for the carrying case (another forum member received identical packaging). However, at that price, I can't complain too much! Thanks for all the continued inspiration. Much of my shooting is underwater (some fish can move as erratically and quickly as many birds for short distances), so I can't wait to try topside wildlife !!
