I mentioned in an earlier post that I had found the ability to zoom out while I located small birds to be useful. Here is an image of a Forty-spotted Pardalote which is small (9 - 10 cm / 3.1 - 3.5 inches) and fast moving. The EXIF shows I did not manage to get back to 400mm before I took the shot.

I've also been thinking about the few missed shots where the 7D MkII/100-400 MkII combination did not lock on to the subject. I've now set the * for my normal IS Servo, single point focus and the AF on button to One Shot and point AF so I have 2 chances to get the focus right. All I need now is some light and a few subjects.

I also think that this is in the wrong thread.

One observation; I am surprised at the extremely high amount of noise grain there is in this file.
I thought the 7D2 was supposed to be much better than that at 800 ISO..........makes me wonder if the shot was severely underexposed, then pulled up when editing.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

That is exactly what I get when pull up a shot. This is 800

That previous shot had 40% exposure added and luminance NR at 10 which is my preset for 800. I set everything to 0 and cropped it.

Looks like what you get with the highlights slider down and the shadows slider up in Lightroom. It increases the noise a fair bit on the bird in these sort of shots.

Just like my 7D the is a light hungry camera. I said in another post that even though the 7D2 is one stop better than the 7D it seems the 7D2 is more light hungry. Exposure is everything on a tightly packed sensor. Although it can do a good job in low light, concerts, etc and would have no issue shooting with it typically my 5D3 comes out for that. More forgiving.

Nice shots of this pretty little bird. I wish we had these around here.

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

Interesting colouring, the shape and look is like our UK long tailed tit but they would look like yours only if they moulted to a winter plumage which they do not. Thanks for sharing :)

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p
