Sitting here this morning, sipping coffee and minding my own business, when I was rudely interrupted by a man with a box...

It caught me by surprise because I was expecting it next week sometime! It's the best feeling in the world getting a new lens, unwrapping it, and then walking around the house shooting the most mundane stuff just for the hell of it :D

First impressions: it's not all that heavy or large, very similar to the 70-200 2.8II (until you zoom haha). IS start/stop is noticeably loud, but man is it rock solid in the view finder. Example images posted hardly do the lens justice: this thing has that signature crispiness to the photos that all of the latest Canons have. Any remorse I had from returning the sharp 24-70 f/2.8L II has officially vanished!

I'm in

Only what I have read, that the IS activates just as you fire the shutter, I was wondering if that would change the IS sound he mentioned.

It sure would drain less battery.. (and also the auto handling of panning and or normal mode. But not sure)

Yeah me too. Just what I read. I have always wondered if it fast enough to bring stabilize while in AI Servo and tracking a bird. Maybe for stills. Something I have not really pursued so I just stuck to modes 1 or 2 for now. I'm sure if I searched I could get more info.
