I must say I don't normally, or maybe that's not right either, it has been really dark snow clouds lately, so I shot this in manual and using the meter I over exposed I think 2 1/2 stops, the raw looks very much like you see here. Really I did not do that much to the shot. It's a super close shot. I'll look but I think 5 feet. I didn't use any EC because I was setting iso as the camera would have wanted way to much iso. I did go far enough over to pull it back down in PP so I did ettr but I would not normally.

Thanks Jeff. 5 feet? Man you are super-steathly-ninja! :)

yea i reckon jeffs got one of those invisible cloaks from harry potter as no mortal can get that close i cant even get that close in my own acerage backyard to birds and animals i feed every day (5 to 10 m is about it ) and you've all seen how the animals just stare at him at him in complete puzzlement (or is it adoration) or maybe he really does wear a bacon suit covered in bird seed - and he probably got it all on line

cheers rob

Lol too funny Rob, I have joked about the invisible cloak lol, I think maybe I need a gopro and we could all post our trips out, now that would be interesting. I also have a feeder and of course the birds come to it but mine don't seem to be that alarmed, of course they are a little on guard but I can drop peanuts at my feet and the blue jays bounce right over to get them. The wood Peckers don't care where I am mostly, they will come sit 3 or 4 feet from me. But your right on the eye it looks at me and that's when I pull the trigger. I find this last while is If I wear a tough duck brown coat they are fine , if I wear camo they don't seem to understand it and there more on guard. You can get about anything on line these days lol

The Bacon is actually stuck to the honey he has smeared all over his otherwise naked body, but yeah, you get the point.

Haha! Well we just finished a great horned owl decoy for red tailed hawks. If it and a ghille don't work I'll give the
naked honey bacon method a try. If I don't get a hawk surely I'll get some ants.

^the Downy stole the show for me. Love the rock wall too :)
In one random second in the video you've got more birds than I see all winter (in the backyard),
so good on you for nuturing them in.

I think one of my big problems is that we're gone almost every other week on a trip and during that
week no one's here to feed them :(

Before I started putting out seed, I never saw birds in my back yard. Now I have a back yard full of birds all the time. I use mostly black oil sunflower seeds. I go through about 50# per month and buy it by the 50#bag. I REALLY enjoy having coffee on my patio and watching them on my off days.

Seeding totally makes a difference, even here in the suburbs. Haven't gotten anything too awesome yet (cardinals, morning doves, sparrows), but just having the activity is nice. Voracious eaters too, they clean the feeder out every other day in the cold weather!

And that's in low, dingy winter light too! How close were you to this little guy?

Ok, I'm a believer. Get the II in good light and it just shines. Made a trip to local wildlife management area and got to see A LOT more interesting birds!

A House Finch and Cedar Waxwing.
