Rub it in. NO Sun here. That's OK, I had almost a week of it last week when we went south.
Kevin, knowing the snakiness of Oz I'd say leeches are the least of your worries :)

We were paddle camping on Yellowstone Lake, got out of the kayak to unload the kit and the daughter noticed
blood on my foot. I'd scraped one of the nasties off the foot getting out of the 'yak-

That's the one picture I didn't want a zoom on. haha

I hope you feel better!

By the way, what is "Oz"? I've read it twice in just a few threads. I'm thinking Tin man, Scarecrow, Dorothy, etc.... But I'm sure that's not right. haha

Eeeeek! Not much bothers me but leeches give me the creeps even though they're pretty harmless. It's the ticks that you have to look out for here as they can cause death if not discovered soon enough. I found 12 on me one day but they're mostly a dry scrub problem as opposed to rainforest. I've just bought some heavy duty canvas gaiters, more for a morale issue than whether or not they can be truly effective against a (determined) snake bite. Noise is the best way to ward 'em off and let 'em know you're coming, but if you're looking for other wildlife, that isn't an option.

Well what can you say about leeches, they suck ;)
Yeah ticks aren't much better and fleas on the trails in our east carry Hanta which
is plain bad news.....but who wants to stay on the couch?

I know in this thread there are a bunch of us (despite age) that still get out there, in two weeks we're backpacking...it's a route we do
every winter, if you get bored Craig's vid will give you an idea of what it's like :) Kev I think your birds would seriously protest-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOiqVHJ8R2g (external link)
But despite the bugs/snakes/bears/etc. I think we'd all agree that hypothermia (and then rednecks) is the biggest threat, well at least in my woods....can't
say about Down Unda :)

lol too funny, -24c this morning, a Long tailed Weasel come up on the deck yesterday morn... I got nothing. Theres a Mink that has taken up residence and it seems everywhere. There's maybe 40 or 50 birds 15 feet behind me and there's a fox that keeps circling the yard ... the fire is roaring....there are no leaches in sight....Think I'll stay right here ...Looks like I have sun again today
