very nice kev and no problem with aus zoo shots cause they never look like they are in a zoo - in fact i reckon australia wildlife park may be a better name

Thanks mate, and even perhaps, "Australia Wildlife Conservation Park" as I believe most of the animals are rescues apart for the African section. I think that's why the elephants haven't yet been replaced. I guess they could buy some if they wanted but perhaps they're waiting/looking for a rescue? Apparently every single bird in the aviary is a rescue.

yea i think Steve had his heart in the right place allright re conservation of animals and i think i recall the elephants were all ex circus elephants from astons or bullens circus or one of those were they not

and yea if they wanted some elephants i am sure daphne shelldrick rescued orphaned elephants foundation in kenya could maybe be approached as they are all orphaned and rescued elephants and some rhinos - we have fostered some there for awhile now as do many others of course

a very worthwhile cause and we usually make a point to visit it when we are in africa

cheers rob

Good on yer Rob. Every bit helps.

Bimbo passed away due to Athritis and Sabu was left all alone and they needed to find it more company so it went back to Bullens who had created a sanctuary which is now run by Zambi Wildlife Retreat. http://www.zambiwildliferetreat.com.au/ (external link)

Nothing to do with the 100-400 but as most of you seem to be wildlife photographers, you might enjoy this thread

https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1451224

Meanwhile, something from me. In the first shot, it's amazing what you can miss, when focusing on your intended shot :-)

Wow... Not sure exactly how, if it's the combination of lighting + lens + post prod, but there's a lot of 3D pop going on with these shots! How'd you get this amazing look?

So these fox, or fox in general, they'll let you get this close? Are you waiting for long stretches before they appear? Maybe a den nearby you know of that you can regularly observe?

I'm not trying to pry, nor have you divulge any trade secrets :) Living in the burbs sucks, I someday hoops to get out to a more rural area with more varied wild life.

Some of it was making sure light was behind me - would have preferred it a bit lower but as it is summer here it is still quite high at 4:30 - 5 in the afternoon - and the key thing was getting separation between the subject and the background.

In post I just reduced clarity a couple of notches, enough to soften the background a bit without softening the subject.

Hope that helps.
