On the beach near its nest - well at least the cordoned off area of beach signposted as saying there was a nest there. Didn't see the nest, bit I did see the bird...and I think it might just have seen me....

See, now I don't see how I could have improved on the pic above with my 500. Hmmm, lots of thinking to be done!

I have guy's wishing they too had the 100-400LII when they can't keep up. They watch me down on the ground rolling around jumping up move kneeling moving standing, All they can do is sit on that tripod. and sometimes I am on a tripod as well but i'm mobil. And throw on the 1.4III and I'm at 560mm.... This lens works very well for the kind of shooting I do most of the time.

To get a finger in and spin a circular polariser I assume.

Camera, some lenses, too little time, too little talent

You are supposed to be able to rotate a polarising filter through it. I don't feel that it's big enough to be useful. What do other owners think?

Ive seen people tape the window closed, but the first time you want to use a Polarizing filter you'll love the window. Hate reaching in and trying to turn a filter..for one thing you cant see whats going on.

Useless for me because I never put a polarizer on the 100-400II. And the damn thing keeps opening on me by itself. So I have taped it shut.

no its a very good image allright and the 100 - 400 is a very flexible usable tele range for sure - but well i guess its shots and the amazing detail like this in post 9043 by peter2516 that makes some of us wish for that 500 and one day maybe the lotto nos will come good and then it will a toss up between a 200 - 400 / 1.4 or the 500 IS 11 but hang it why not just get them both hey

cheers
