Hmmm, lots of thinking to be done! IQ wise there really is not much between them, the 500 would not have been wide open @ F5.6 ( not that this lens is a slouch wide open ), or the 500 could have been used at F4 allowing twice the shutter speed or half the ISO as well as not having to crop the original as much. A coupla bodies and a few lenses

Scrumhalf Cream of the Crop More info | Jan 31, 2016 11:33 | #3111 I got FoCal Pro and dialed in MFA on my 100-400 II. Very pleased with the 7D2/100-400II combo now... I get very good results with heavy crops. This is the heavily cropped (close to 1:1) version: It is very usable for screen viewing with significant detail retention. Jan 31, 2016 14:39 | #3112 I continue to be pleased with the resolution that my new 7D2 and 100-400II combination achieve. The attached image is 1/6th of the original frame-and the birds in question were about 100 yards from me. The resulting crop and enlargement gives more detail than I could observe with my naked eye, and almost as much as my 8x binoculars.Nothing particularly artistic, but a passable record of what those of us saw on a bird walk yesterday... Scissor tailed flycatchers and friend

What are people's opinions on the eyes. Its really the only selection that I have altered. They didn't look too bad when I processed the pic but now I'm not so sure.
