Look out you guys in Missouri! My grand daughter has just been granted an internship at the World Bird Sanctuary at Valley Park near St Louis. She's coming in January so I guess she'll have to shop around for some warm clothes :-) Australia Zoo are holding her job and encouraging her further learning

Stone me, Kevin. How close were you actually to that first croc? How close can you safely get? (Please don't tell me it was in a zoo!) Awesome pics, as usual!

Canon 7D2 · 16-35 f/4L IS · 17-55 f/2.8 IS · 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM · 50 f/1.8 · 100 f/2.8 Macro · 100-400L IS II
Picture editing is OK. CC always welcome.

Nice. I bet a lot of your sentences start with " My granddaughter, who is a zoologist.......) :)

You should try and get her to get into a bit of photography. She is in a unique position to photograph animals from a zoo workers point of view. It would be a great long term thing to do.

I understand Robert Irwin is into photography. I only know this because a dude I know from Teds Cameras in Maroochydore sold him a 5DSR.

Thanks mate, but you wouldn't get me that close IRL. They were in Australia Zoo. Most of the time I ignore the exhibits there and only go (I have a season pass) for the birds that inhabit the landscaping and bush there, or to catch up with my grand daughter in her lunch break.

Yes George, she is into photography but uses a DSLR only on her excursions into the bush. She's worked a few refuges here and in the UK and the work is pretty full on so most of her pics whilst working are taken with a phone. You can see the range of birds she's worked with here: https://www.flickr.com …/albums/72157638363356323 (external link)

Oh, come on Kevin. Be adventurous. The 100-400L II lets you get real close to wild gators and crocs. ;-)a

These were taken at Huntington Beach State Park in South Carolina last spring.

I just got the 100-400ii as a refurb and have been playing around with it. I've done some MFA adjustments, but I think they still need some tweaking. I focused on his eye and you can see where the depth of field is falling on the stone pretty well. I was getting some variance in the focusing, but that may be the 7dii. I still need to use it more to get a better feel.
