Rather strong performer in up close shooting, as well:

Nice shots, Eric! Looks like you need to update your gear list in the footer! ;)

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Not sure if this is really the correct thread but I will ask in here anyway....... I have just hired a 100-400mm L V2 for the weekend as I am going to watch the BTCC on Sunday (motorsport event).

Are there any tips for using this lens for motorsport, such as IS settings etc? In the past I have read things with other lenses, such as the old V1 of this lens, that some people recommend turning IS off in certain situations (I'm thinking such as panning) and I believe this lens has a couple of different IS settings so thought I would ask from people more in the know ;-)a

Any tips appreciated.

Thanks

For panning Motorsport I use mode 2 or even 3 if I don't need the image in the viewfinder stabilised.

To be clear, it's not a case of "some people recommending".

If panning use either IS OFF, Mode 2 or Mode 3. Do not use Mode 1.

I see your use to the 70-300L so I can only say keep your speed up until to get use to the extra reach. other wise shoot it just like you had the 70-300L on.

The 100-400 II makes a great air show lens!

Now your gona have to start giving us a clue as to what camera your using MedicineMan, Nice House Finch...I have never seen one, they do just about make it on the map to me.. Mostly I have the Purple Finch of which you can see the difference right away. Of course this guy is wet and shot in the dark. Its getting to be a lot of work looking up your gear on flickr lol

I go out on the patio with dog and my camera and guess what bird shows up at the feeder first? Still outside. Will process a few shots tonight.

.
.

After many field trips trying to capture a raptor but to no avail, this cheeky bugger came and sat on the wires behind my back yard. Big crop.

Hehe, funny Pondrader. Speaking of gear I do need to find new homes for a 1Div and 6D....will make you a special deal on the 1Div, I don't think you have need of 6D. I like the Purple Finch better. I'll study the range map and see if they are possible my way.
