Not sure if I should bring this up here but where there any conversations about this lens getting excessive dust inside? Can someone link to if there were. Thanks

Well my Mk1 didn't so should my Mk2 be worse?

Still I only had my 100-400 Mk1 for 8 or 9 years - so not really a long term evaluation. It did pick up some internal dust but nowhere near enough to be relevant - I hope my Mk2 is half as good in this respect!

I believe that Pondrader may have discussed it earlier in this thread but I may be remembering (or forgetting) incorrectly

You are correct.. Mine is disgraceful. it's been collecting dust from day one at an alarming rate. On the other hand my 70-300L does not. both very similar lenses in function. Some have taken their lens apart and cleaned some of the dust off the glass they can get at but I have been to chicken to do it.

Mine is also quite dusty inside. There are 2 POTN members who have gone in from the front and cleaned inside.

Wow I had no idea people were having this much of a dust problem with the II. Is this a case of just a few outlier incidents or is this problem more systemic with this lens design?

No problems here, and I've had the lens since it came out. Took it along on flights to many destinations.

I think it was earlier in this thread, but PondRaiders looked like he was using it as a shopvac attachment some time back.

Mine is quite clean. So was my "trombone" despite it's being dragged around the world into all kinds of dusty environments.

I got my v2 on the day it was released in December, 2014. It has spent most of its time on a 7D2, but that changed to a 1DX2 last summer. The inside of mine is clean. Doing a quick sort on Lightroom shows that 40% of my photos are at 400mm, 25% are at 100, and the remaining 35% are somewhere in between. I've probably taken 20,000 shots, but most of them would be 4 - 6 shot bursts.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.
