Did a short run and played SAG while wifey reconned the bike course of next week's tri, so I had some time around the lake to do some shooting.

I still don't understand this "birds" thing.

I put my 1.4 extender III on my lens and took a few photos in the backyard while resting from my fence project this weekend.

That's a good question... for me, photographing birds is a relaxing retreat from a modern world filled with incessant distraction. I can go birding for hours at a time, away from the bustle of everyday life, and just revel in that one singular focus. Many times I come away with no useful photos, but that's OK because the joy of it all is in process; yet, when you do happen upon that rare moment that it all comes together, it's immensely satisfying, and it's what keeps you coming back for more :) Fishing is an apt comparison.

I kind of just described photography as a whole, yes, but... Birding and other wildlife photography gets you out of the house, further away from iPhone/computer/TV/video games/work/traffic/other humans/house work/deadlines/etc.

I feel exactly the same. I go shooting birds or wildlife every weekend, even maybe for just an hour, but I have to do it to get out of the house. Sometime I am lucky to get a nice shot of a big hawk or tiny a warbler, sometime it is nothing but a few swallows, but it became a strong habit of mine.

Considering that I am just less than two month out of a lung cancer surgery, walking is a regiment that I have to do. Walking with a camera gives this regiment a nice flavor!

These little fellers are so hard to nail focus as you can see their size in relationship to the rain drops. Not as sharp as I would have liked with all the rain/ moisture in the air and lens at full stretch
