This isn't as colorful as the one above, but it hung out in my yard long enough for me to grab my camera. I'm still getting used to how narrow the DOF is at short-ish distances with this lens and TC combo.

Thank you Mathew but I think it's that funny bokeh that this combo sometimes throws out.

I have been enjoying all the picks you guys have been posting. I was going to buy a new body, but I think I am going to purchase this lens. It was between this lens and the 70-200. I shoot mostly wildlife and I think even though the faster lens would be nice, this lens would get more use. I see a 150 dollar instant rebate right now. I this the best deal they have had out this year? Any thoughts if they might have a better rebate on the next few months.

Hands down the 100-400LII will work 10X better for your wildlife shooting. Hooked onto the front of a crop with the extender you can reach a long way to that critter. One of the best things I ever did was let my wife buy this lens for me behind my back.. lol

Every time I travel, I wish I had this lens. It's just too big to carry comfortably with the rest of what I need... :(

Every time I travel, I DO have this lens. It's the 500mm that's too big for most trips :)

That's my favorite lens too, The only time I have something different with me is when I travel to Europe.

It is compact and light enough for me to take anywhere. It goes in my laptop bag along with two camera bodies, 100 mm L, and flash - and the laptop, of course.

My one concession is that the hood goes in the roll-aboard.

It doesn't fit in my under-seat carryon with the 24-70ii and 70-200ii. I could have taken it to Colorado, but still would have needed to have it in the backpack it doesn't fit in for the race. I'd need a bigger backpack and I don't want to do that...

Doesn't the hood still fit if reversed...or is it just too fat?

Yes, but I always leave the 70-200mm at home :)
