Thanks John_T. I did not realize that the original came out that long ago. It it even older than I was originally thinking. I need to look into it. I love my 400 mm f/4.5L prime, but having a long zoom to compliment the 70-200 f/4L would be a nice to have. Kerry Sanders | flickr

Glad the lens survived this poor treatment. [nellyle;17490264]It certainly is! If you're going to plaster your name all over the tape and box, at least put some effort in! I can promise you it will not have looked anything like this when it left us.

That box was sculpted with the help of UPS. ![]() I've seen worse, but that's no excuse for the disgraceful handling by some delivery guys.

Adorama generally packs stuff very well with just this kind of rough handling in mind. I suspect that the lens arrived in good shape, esp because of that and the two inch thick foam packing inside the Canon box. All that notwithstanding, as long as Helen is aware, I'm sure there will not be an issue if there is a problem with the lens. Jay

And you are hearing this from someone that has advocated that prime for over a decade. This zoom is juts that good, it completely replaces both the old zoom and the old prime. You don't think that the bokeh isn't at least a little better (less edgy/busy) on the prime?

This is what I needed to hear Jake. I really appreciate your input. I am going to have to give the 100-400 zoom a serious look now that they have upped the generation of the lens.
