EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Review WOW!

This lens has impressed me a lot. I have the original version that was good but having 4 stops IS, and much better performance with the 1.4TC has made the upgrade worth it. It actually compares quite well against my 200-400 for straight up IQ but the 200-400 still has a few special traits that make it worthwhile to me to have both. Here area few recent images with it. 1st and 4th are with the 1.4TCIII.

Fantastic set of images! Really shows your skill, and the IQ of this lens.

I am not able to compare to the bokeh of the prime, but the bokeh of the 100-400mm II is IMO not good. There is a kind of double-vision effect, a ropy appearance, with some backgrounds. (Same as with the original 100-400mm.)

I still love the 100-400 II.

I am very happy with the way it plays with the 1.4x III

What are the 400 mm f/5.6L primes going for now? I mentioned to my wife last night that I might be selling it and looking at a new 100-400 zoom.

Here on POTN there is a bit of a glut, they are going around $800.00 mostly. I'd avoid E-bay for that reason.

My inquiry was for possibly selling my 400 f/5.6L prime. I have had it for around 9 years. I like what I am seeing from the 100-400 zoom, but I would need to sell two of these primes to purchase the zoom.

I sold a Sigma 120-400 and four EF-S lenses to fund the 100-400 II!

I sold a camera and a couple of lenses.....

Since purchasing the 7D2 and this lens, I'm content with my gear. I have quite a ways to go before my skills will be greater than the equipment I own. I have been having fun since I got into photography again in 2010 but I've been having an extraordinary time with the aforementioned combo.

Saw a nice-looking coyote today. Shots were just ok. Wish I got closer and wish he stayed still longer. Anyways....
