Save up for it ... I just did and it’s definitely worth it! I wish I had gone this route previously. Now I just need to get back up in the mountains and line up the same critters and shots that I tried with other lenses. I know this will top those.

I’m still very new to it, but it definitely worth it!

For what it's worth my 100-400 Mk2 is very good on my 7D2 but it is excellent on my 1DX! The images have more detail (so long as I am not cropping too much), more depth and life (very non scientific) - just better and require less PP. I would expect your 5D4 to be a shade better again with this lens. Just a thought?

I absolutly love this lens, I use an 80D ! I can't compare it to a full frame though , But I think my Images are as good as I can make them!

Mostly issues on the 80D and 7DII oddly (soft and hazy images vs FF bodies). I

I'm prepared to bet that the majority of those reports are from folk who have very little idea as to how long lenses can compress moisture/heat/haze in the atmosphere. Nothing to do with the lens and more about their lack of knowledge of compression.

The problem is that some folk have seen wonderful results from this lens and dived straight in and bought it with very little knowledge of the handling of lenses this long. I saw one whinge, I think it was on DP, where someone was complaining about "soft and hazy" and it transpired that he had recently bought a used 7D with a kit lens and seeing the results from this lens, jumped right in and bought it as his "2nd lens" It transpired that he had only ever used compact point and shoot cameras and this was his first foray into "serious" photography (as he put it)

I once belonged to a bow club shooting all types of bow and arrow... when someone said their bow was not functioning correctly I would take it left handed or right and put three arrows in a inch and a half circle.. then hand it back. I think it all comes down to mechanic's.

All the 7DII's i've shot worked mostly the same. yes some were slightly better or different... not sure which.

For me its the poor man's 1Dx....

Sorry I'm processing as I type.

But.. !! I do have some recommendations for the next generation of 7DIII.

DO NOT! This lens was MADE for the 7D2! I’ve never had a better combo, and I’ve had a lot of combos. There is no systemic problem with this pair...

lol funny.. I have 8 Terabyte of Images that say the 100-400LII is a killer lens.

This lens rocks with a FF and a TC. Unless you are sport photographer where you need 16 FPS or shooting sparrows in flight the 7D2 is more than capable. Non erratic BIF with the 7D2 at factory settings is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Got back to the beaver pond today. This time before sunrise. Light was too low to get any image of the beaver without a 5DIV. After they went to bed an otter showed up. It was gathering grass. From what I've read this afternoon it is to line a nest. I may have some cubs to photograph this summer. Wouldn't that be great!
