Sometimes it just never comes off... never the wisest whilst shooting n the dark... but hey ...gota do what ya gota do. Right at dusk this guy comes up a knocking at the deck doors.

I will say I don't mind leaving it on ( 1.4III )most of the time.

i have two 70D's; do they count as 'modern' bodies?

I don't want to waste my money getting a vIII teleconverter.

TIA

As far as I know you can only get this with 1Dx2, and 5D4.
I know the 80D will allow more af points at smaller f/stops than most previous bodies, including older 1D/1Dx series, , but I don't know if it gets the "no brakes applied" advantage. Even 7D2 does not get this advantage. So no, the 70D would not be included.

So sadly, even with a new lens and a MkIII t-con, on a 70D you will still be at the same AF speed disadvantage.

This no longer applies when you use modern lens, MkIII T-Cons and the most current bodies.
This is "how it was" since T-cons in the 1990s up until the latest stuff only available in the last few years.
If a forced slow down remains at all, it is so small so as to be no longer perceptible for me.

Well I'm finding it pretty slow compared to my 2X at F8. Often it won't focus on the subject unless I pump the BBF. Not impossible to achieve but is a challenge when I'm trying to find the bird at 800mm. I think I'm setting the focusing distance correctly. It does not hunt when set to the correct range. That setting seems more critical than the 1.4. I'd like to find a way to speed that up if it is possible.

Hi All

I cannot compete with the abundance of wild life which some of you seem to be surrounded by, or to produce the image quality some of you seem to get (Digital photography depression seems to have kicked-in). However, I thought I'd better post a couple of pics.
I set the camera up trained on my bird bath the other day - I was hoping to get a few pics of the Goldfinches and Greenfinches - but they did not oblige - anyway here's a couple I did get.

Thanks for Likes guys. I am now posting a couple of Jackdaws.
Note - I have broken my habit of a lifetime and sized them at approx. 1000px to suit forum rules - I think! Distance to subject about 65ft (20m to keep the Euro-types happy)

Hi Pondrader - Thanks for comments. Have you any idea why the 'Lens data' in the two sparrow pics I posted just now is NOT showing the 1.4x MkIII extender? It shows in image data in PS.

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks

You must use a clicker to get them to look directly at you so often. ;-)a

Actually he was afraid I was gona bite him in the A$$ so he took a look. I use to knock them off the feeder with the .22 but I'm getting soft. :p :p

Truthfully .... Animals love me. just ask any coon around here lol I'll be honest with ya ... Clicking at most animals makes them nervous and they look it and run.

The trick to getting the "look shot" is to be ready for it..and I am. I try and get people who shoot with me to stand and shoot.. dont move your feet, dont shuffle around, dont click or throw stuff. Stand and get what you can get. Thats how I shoot

Just another - I shot this passing through my local train station a while ago. It was raining hard but the 100-400 L MkII made reasonable work of it - with just a little help from PS CS6.

One of these days I will be ready but it wasn't yesterday.
Saw a bear and only had the T3i with the 75-300 so no IS etc (my carry while fishing kit; not worth a lot if something happens but works)
Bear was too far away for good shots. I cut the distance in half walking toward him but I didn't get close enough for really good, detailed shots and I wasn't going to interrupt his lunch. Had him in view for maybe 5 minutes before he left. Seemed like forever and nothing at the same time. Changed up to the tamron 150-600 before I left today but only saw a muskrat.
