Chris---Your reply is really great. I subscribe to everything you have to say. I too prefer using my 80D with bare lenses over a 1.4xIII. But I will use the 1.4TC when shooting static shots (and need the extra magnification), and for the most part, I've had decent results.

Agreed, it's truly one of those things where one has to try it out and figure what actually works for them in practice.

One of these days I will be ready but it wasn't yesterday.
Saw a bear and only had the T3i with the 75-300 so no IS etc (my carry while fishing kit; not worth a lot if something happens but works)
Bear was too far away for good shots. I cut the distance in half walking toward him but I didn't get close enough for really good, detailed shots and I wasn't going to interrupt his lunch. Had him in view for maybe 5 minutes before he left. Seemed like forever and nothing at the same time. Changed up to the tamron 150-600 before I left today but only saw a muskrat.

Rod

To bad Rod... at least you got the memory and the story. I have taken to sometimes not carrying the camera with us on the after dinner walk of a few miles. A month ago we had a medium size bear walking just inside the trees along side of us just 20 feet away lol. fun to watch.. It too was just a story.

I like it Pondrader - the colours are so smooth with no visible grain. (Not a very technical reply I'm afraid)

Hi Guys - I have spent nearly 6 hours(0500-1100) this morning glued to the viewfinder waiting for the goldfinches to arrive at the birdbath. I had to use ISO1600 due to the poor early morning light. I reduced the noise in Camera Raw. Not too happy with 'em, but Hey-Ho!

in the park looking for some ducks that are always there. A perfectly placed road sign (unknown at the time of capture) makes a flame. Perfect for a 100 degree day in North Texas.

Interesting alignment. I guess you would get a free hair trim and eyebrow removal if that was real.

Nice shots...didn't know they'd eat raspberries.

Hi Guys - Thought I'd post a shot of my little friend 'Tufty' this morning.
He greets me every morning sitting in a little patch of dried grass.
Here he is chewing his nuts as usual.

Hey Ray... I live in the land between what I call normal canadian bush a mix of hard and soft woods evergreen's and maple tree's and what resembles more like tundra with no hard wood only rock formation and scrub like bushes to the north. The land changes dramatically in a couple hours drive north.

My Back yard is a vast wild place where most but not all of Canada's critters reside. The pond in my back yard holds many a critter, I have shot Moose, Bear, Otter, Beaver, eagles, all the water birds, and much more right here in my back yard. I'm feeling these days I want to put something together like a book on the land and critters of this place I have grown up in.

I put the +1.4III because the forum does not. and some like to know if the lens is sharp with it on.

These are just iPhone pictures I snapped. last night the sky was raining with peaces of blue sky. I really should get to taking some with a camera.

May I suggest something?

Attach your camera to your hand with super glue.
Write that book, damned.
