I'm thrilled to have moved this amazing lens from my wish list, into my gear list :-D. The longest focal length I've had to date is 200mm, it's fantastic now to have 400mm at my disposal.

I got mine a few weeks back and I am really enjoying it. Probably the tipping point for me was 50 pages of pretty much all praise on here! African Harrier-hawk.

Received mine earlier this week. It's definitely thicker and heavier than I expected, but you get used to it after a while. My 200 f/2.8L II looks tiny in comparison.
I really like the IS at 400mm. It literally stops the image in the viewfinder.

Here is a 100% crop of a moon shot I took this evening with the 20D. Only very moderate sharpening (1 notch out of 10) was applied to the RAW file in DPP. I'm impressed.

400mm wide open at f/5.6, handheld

Nice moonshot :)

Only used mine on an outing yesterday and have yet upload them......soon!

A quick question to other users? I had the mkI and was used to the smooth/tight ring having a lot more rotation than on this new one. It seems to be approx a quarter turn.....is yours the same?

The other thing I noticed was in the zoom rotation was a very slight difference in feel & sound of zooming, in that there is as it zooms there is a vaguely audible noise like rubbing and possibly my imagination that the zoom feels less smooth during that part of the rotation. This was I am sure with tensioning ring at the most smooth end? Any thoughts and feedback would be welcome :)

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

Mine was delivered today & it is spectacular! Definitely going to take some getting used to the weight, it's not bad but I'm not the most "steady handed" person. Practice , practice, practice! Lol!

My tension ring also has about a quarter of a turn. Zoom is smooth though.

Several new owners in last few posts.
I'd suggest checking the 4 small screws in the tripod ring base plate (not the foot, remove foot to see them)
Several reports of them not being loose, as were mine.
