IMO quite an ordinary lens. Requires bright daylight, forget twilight and night shooting!

Yeah, its definitely not my indoor lens of choice, but I've used it up until about 30 minutes after sunset when its clear. The high ISO capabilities of modern cameras help extend the usefulness of slower lenses like this.

Well, I use my 300/2.8 for low light conditions.

Well, I don't have one. I use my 70-200 2.8 indoors but the reach is severely limited for outdoor soccer.

Your first 2 posts on the forum and you're calling out the 100-400L ii as an Ordinary lens in It's own thread. Great start..
It might not be a 2.8, but it's FAR from being an Ordinary lens.

Got stuff ;)

You're right, it's not a 2.8. It's an ordinary 4.5, that's my opinion. Am I not allowed to have my own opinion around here?

Kind of weird to compare a versatile, all-around zoom to a specialized prime. The only things your 300 has over the zoom is the aperture (which isn't that big of a deal anymore with the modern improved sensor performance) and some sharpness, neither of which honestly isn't anything all that extraordinary. What is extraordinary is the 3x the cost you pay for the prime ;-)a

Chill out, chief, nobody cares about your money, or your gear choice for that matter. As for your certainly subjective opinion, we're all so much more enlightened since you decided to chime in.

Countless amazing images have been made with this pedestrian, ordinary lens, just browse this thread for any length of time to see for yourself... oh, and please don't think I'm not telling you how to spend your time, relax, it's just a suggestion.

By the way, have you had the chance to shoot with a 100-400 II?

Fair enough, it may not be everybody's cup of tea, but then again, nothing ever is.
