Those came out better than I'd expect, for stacked TCs in general. Stacked TCs on a zoom? I would have predicted garbage!

A few years back I purchased a used Sigma 2X and stacked in on a Canon 2X for my moon shot.

1st shot cropped to 4100 pixels wide (of 4896 original)
2nd shot uncropped.

I was surprised too.

Yeah, I got my Sigma 2xTC used, cheap super reach.

First time I have tried just the Sigma 2xTC.
Uncropped then cropped:

They laughed at me at my local camera club when I mentioned stacking two 2X and basically said what Jake did. You will get garbage. I never tried this for anything else because I had to work it pretty hard in PP to sharpen it.

I got the idea from a bird photographer from the Philippines called Romy Ocon. His forum name is liquidstone on other sites. I have a bunch of people I follow for various photography stuff. He inspired me for bird photography.

I'm sorry this is a bit off topic and not with a 100-400. 300L F4 IS. 1200mm with the two TC's. These posts should be on a TC steroid thread.

Breathtaking!

I think I can see a building in one of the craters - or maybe it's a lunar lander left behind in the '60s!!

I am so impressed that you achieved this without a telescope.

Cheers

Alec

Thanks but I can't take credit. Not my idea. Romy would double stack his 500mm and higher. His moonshots made my shot look like a pre schoolers drawing.

QUOTED IMAGE

Romy is here on POTN too, and his reputation with shooting long lenses is without peer. He has been doing things with T-Cons and 800mm lenses that I've not seen repeated. His screen name is perfectly apropos, as his shooting technique must require both rock solid stability and flexibility. (can you tell I'm a fan?)

Anyway, it's impressive to see improved glass and people that work hard it break the old rules of thumb!

He also happily hand holds a SIGMA 300-800mm zoom, weighing in at about 14 pounds!
With T-Cons!
no IS!

We need to start new Romy fanclub thread ;)
