Questions about Fuji X100, X-Pro 1, X-T1

I'm leaning toward the X100S. I wish they had the silver for $850. I really like the silver but $850 is a great find. I see it used for about that.

How indicative is your Flickr page (great photos btw!) of the photography you currently do? I looked through the first page, and I'm seeing sports shots (kids?), tightly framed portraits with good subject separation, and concert photos.

All of which would not be a good fit for the X100 series, imo. Obviously not a sports camera, the 35mm fov is probably not ideal for the type of portraits you do, and not very good for concerts either. Sure the X100 CAN do all this in the sense that your Iphone theoretically could do so as well, but I would struggle to see when you'd actually prefer the X100 for your style of photography over your 5D2.

The X100s is a perfect street photography camera. The small size and leaf shutter makes it almost invisible, a good FOV for street, good manual focusing, hybrid VF, etc. In fact the camera made me a very reluctant street shooter to that being my favorite type of photography. So if your plan is to get into street photography, I think this would be an ideal camera.

And of course, the X100s is also a great all-arounder. It's the camera I have with me most of the time, even if it's not street photography. But again, from your Flickr page, your photography style seems very specific, and I don't see the X100 series being conducive to that style.

So I'd go for one of the X-series interchangeable lens models, or better yet go with your 3rd option.

Thanks Dark Knight, I would say for the most part its pretty indicative of what I shoot. Family stuff too and I'm looking for something when I don't want to lug around the DSLR.

For this I do shoot with my G15 a lot and I don't post that much to Flickr. The more I think about it I guess I'm looking for something to use instead of the p/s and I'll probably just end up with an X100s and not invest in another brand. If I really fall in love with it I can see about changing up some of my Canon gear but I feel the x100s is a good place to start.

I do shoot some street stuff on occasion. Pretty much anything when its for fun. Travel, just walking around etc too.

I also do some portrait work so I would never part with my 5d 50/135 combo.


I think the X100 can pretty much replace the G15 and the pancake.

No idea what you got that from.

an xt-1 with a 23mm lens will most likely be sharper than the x100s. The x100s is a great lens but its not the sharpest. I think there is a comparison somewhere out there with examples and its very clear that the x100s is not the leader in sharpness.

I think the bigger difference is distortion rather than sharpness but the XT-1 is definitely better all round (except for cost and size of course).

No idea why everyone started comparing the X100s vs the 35mm prime?
I for one have said nothing about it... at all.

How does it compare to a 35 2.0 IS or 35L?

ha! No idea but it seems to be what the thread is evolving to!

People obsess way too much over sharpness. The vast majority of us mostly just view our shots online or in 8x10 or smaller prints, where sharpness really doesn't matter all that much. Even when you print a large (20x30 for example) print it doesn't matter nearly as much as other factors in the photo. I've said it numerous times, but one of my favorite shots is hanging in my living room as a 20x30 and it looks fantastic... it was taken with a 8mp 20D and a convenience-over-performance superzoom Tamron 18-270mm.

I can't help but think the money would be better spent on a 35 2.0 IS or 35L. I know the fuji is smaller and all but hard to pass up a nice lens for the same price or less if I got the 2.0 IS

You mean 23mm f1.4 vs 35L? I can do some testing as I got 23mm f1.4/XT-1 and 5dmk3 with 35L and the Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art.
